Commerce Minister of China Chen Deming visited the World Trade Center site on September 22, joined by officials in charge from the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey and the WTC project.
Minister Chen inquired in detail about the WTC rebuilding project, including the overall plan, project financing, investment opportunities, construction progress and the function and completion date of the towers. Minister Chen also commented on the stable development of China-US trade and economic relations, which has seen the establishment of a number of bilateral dialogue mechanisms including JCCT and SAED. The next session of JCCT will soon be held in China. At the end of last century, the Chinese government launched the “Go Global” strategy to encourage Chinese companies to invest overseas and explore international markets, and the U.S. and especially the Greater New York area are among the priority markets, said Minister Chen. He also expressed support for promoting more Chinese companies to engage in the WTC project.
Minister Chen instructed the Economic and Commercial Office of the Consulate General of China in New York to further its ties with the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey and the WTC, and conduct further research on the WTC project to provide better services for interested Chinese companies.
